Quarter Two

October to December 2018

In the lead up to the 2019 Global Skills Challenge and the 45th International WorldSkills Championships, we focused on having a presence at a number of significant industry events around the country. This ensured a strong collaboration with industry partners and a consistent platform to promote all the amazing achievements of WorldSkills participants. .

Try’a Skill

During the year, 42,150 visitors were encouraged to try a new skill or trade at 31 events across the country, supporting the WorldSkills regional competitions. The public could try their hand at the very skills our young apprentices and tradespeople were competing in.

Skills Squad Training Opportunities

Members of the Skills Squad were invited to refine their skills overseas ahead of the 45th WorldSkills International competition in Russia. Our Joinery, Carpentry and Bricklaying Competitors and Experts, went to China while our Cloud Computing & Graphic Design Competitors attended the WorldSkills New Zealand National Championships. This was a fantastic opportunity to set them up for success in Russia.

Start Your Journey Launch

To encourage young people to compete in WorldSkills at the grassroots level, we launched a campaign called “Start Your Journey” for the 2019 Regional Competitions. Many young people grow and develop in leaps and bounds during their WorldSkills journey, and this campaign captures the essence of that positivity.
